Government Center Projects

The Office of Property Management is managing the development of the Minnesota-Benning and Anacostia Gateway Government Centers. The Centers are office complexes being built to house District Government agencies and help revitalize the Anacostia and Central Northeast commercial areas.

Among the numerous benefits, the projects will attract businesses, generate more retail sales, increase pedestrian traffic, encourage investment and create new jobs.

Minnesota Benning Government Center

The Minnesota-Benning Government Center will house the Department of Employment Services, include a one-stop employment and business center, provide retail space for local businesses, include a large community meeting room and office space for about 500 government employees. Plans also call for a green roof and a 100-space underground parking garage.

For more information, please visit the Minnesota-Benning Government Center webpage.  To learn more about the official groundbreaking with Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, please read the November 6, 2008 Press Advisory.

Soutwest Waterfront

The District will lease over 500,000 square feet of office space in the soon to be constructed office complex above the Waterfront-Southeastern Metro station.  The office buildings will be home to over 1,600 District employees and consolidate the offices of various agencies, including the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Planning, and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. The project is the District's first transaction with a private developer for LEED silver certified buildings.

For more information, please visit the Soutwest Waterfront webpage.

Anacostia Gateway Government Center

Anacostia Gateway

The Anacostia Gateway Government Center will house the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) headquarters.  Bids were received for construction but were determined to be too high.  In addition, the needs of the agency have significantly changed.  While the District re-examines the needs of the agency, the site will be cleared for future construction.  .
