The Field Operations Branch of PSD depends on the PSU to provide state of art surveillance equipment to detect intrusions and notify officers of crimes in progress. Video and other electronic surveillance enables the Field Operations Branch to investigate and document crime, and establish evidence for court proceedings.

In addition, the PSU is on the scene at special events to document the events and provide evidence of criminal acts. Photographs taken by the PSU are often used to identify known suspects or persons of interest.
