What We Do

OPM currently has primary responsibility for facility management services within the District government. OPM performs acquisition, construction, leasing, facility management, repair and alteration, facility modernization, and security services for the tenant agencies/occupants of its facilities. There are 64 agencies or independent operating units occupying space in 334 facilities under the control of OPM. OPM is also responsible for the disposal of all city-owned surplus real property except for sports complexes.

Thirty of these 334 facilities are multi-purpose facilities that constitute the "core" properties OPM manages. OPM is responsible for the final decision surrounding the acquisition and disposition of real property, assignment and reassignment, day-to-day operation and maintenance including monitoring of contractors' work related to property management, lease payments, repair and modernization, and physical security of the space.
